i’m not a fan of 1997-2000 era duran duran
like i love the medazzaland album but besides that…just…as a band i can’t get into them
part of it is knowing that simon was quite unhappy with the direction the band was heading and i’m not happy if he’s not happy so…yeah heh
but…yeah…to me it just seems like they were going through the motions, especially live - like i downloaded a concert from…1998 i think…and it was just really awkward. they didn’t seem to be enjoying themselves at all, and they didn’t have all of the jokes and silliness they have nowadays.
this is also why i can’t get into pop trash at all. it just feels so sad. i love “someone else not me” but it’s such a fucking downer. idk. i know a lot of people like the album because it’s such a dramatic change from their other work, but it’s not the band that i know and love.
i’ve said this before…i am so, so glad that they all got back together and made things work again. i don’t think there was any possible way the band would have continued on if they hadn’t.

that’s pretty much how i feel about it too. When John’s not happy I’m not happy, and he left during the recording, so I feel less connection to it. But I’m glad he DID leave, in a way, so he could get sober for good.
